From the cruise to your flight, without dragging bags.
You got off the ship at 7 a.m. and your flight leaves at 4 p.m. Here are all the real options for your bags and your free hours in Miami, with prices, and how I handle it.
I’ve been picking people up at the Port of Miami for more than 10 years, and I see the same scene almost every cruise day: the ship docks at 7 in the morning, the flight leaves at 4 in the afternoon, and the family ends up sitting on their suitcases with no plan. If that’s you, this guide is for you.
★ Before you get off ★What you need to know first
No lockers
PortMiami doesn’t have them for security reasons. The port says so on its official page.
You get off early
Disembarkation starts between 7 and 8 a.m. If you wait for your group, it can be 8:30 to 9:30.
Port → MIA
About 9 miles: 20 to 30 minutes without traffic.
Get there early
2 hours before a domestic flight, 3 before an international one.
From South Beach
Leave about 2 hours before your flight. The causeways don’t forgive.
5 options, with real prices
You can put four of them together yourself. The fifth one is with me. Your call.
Store your bags and go explore
This is what most people do. There are places near the port, in South Beach and inside the airport.
Near the port
Hold My Luggage is closed on days without big ships. Check first.
South Beach
MIA airport
Only if you fly out of MIA. Photo ID and ticket required.
A family with 4 large suitcases pays roughly
And that’s just storage. Add 3 or 4 rides: port, storage, sightseeing, back for the bags, then the airport.
Hotel day pass
You buy a pass (ResortPass, for example), the hotel holds your bags and you use the pool. Some have showers. A day room runs about $100. Good with kids, a night flight, or if you want to shower before you fly.
Cruise line excursion
Some lines sell an excursion, like the Everglades, with your bag on the bus and a final stop at MIA. Fixed times, group tour. With Carnival it’s only for flights after 3:30 p.m.
Straight to the airport
The simplest, and almost nobody wants it. Ask your airline how early they take bags. It’s hours in a terminal without seeing Miami.
With me, in one plan

Everything above has the same problem: you’re the one putting the pieces together. Taxi, storage, sightseeing, another taxi, pick up the bags, one more taxi. I put it all in one service.
- No waiting at the terminal. We agree on the pickup time and exact spot ahead of time. If disembarkation runs late, text me and I adjust.
- Your bags ride with me in my 2026 Chrysler Pacifica. Up to 6 passengers and usually 3 large suitcases plus 4 carry-ons, depending on size.
- It ends where it has to: at your airline’s door, on time.
Depending on your free time
Straight to the airport, with a quick stop if you want: a Cuban coffee or a photo at South Pointe.
Stay with me. Bags ride in the car, no storage fees, a few stops and we finish at the airport.
I take you to the storage place or hotel you pick and drop you in the area you want to see. I come back at the time we set and take you to MIA.

The route isn’t fixed
We build it that day around your flight time, the traffic, the distance, the weather and what you like. I lean toward places on the way to the airport, and if it rains we switch to something indoors. A few 2 to 3 hour examples, always ending at MIA:
Classic Miami
South Pointe and Ocean Drive for the Art Deco photos, then Calle Ocho.
Cuban flavor
A cafecito and the domino park on Little Havana’s Calle Ocho.
Art and flavor
The Wynwood murals and a Cuban lunch before the airport.
If it rains
Lunch in Little Havana and a museum or an indoor mall.
Side by side: family of 4, 4 p.m. flight

How to book
Message me on WhatsApp with three things and I’ll reply in under 2 hours with the plan and the price.
The full experience, The Bridge, is billed by the hour: $80 an hour, 2-hour minimum. I only do one a day, so it’s worth holding the date early.
Frequently asked questions
Are there lockers at the Port of Miami?
No. PortMiami has no lockers for security reasons. Your options are luggage storage in Bayside, Downtown or South Beach, the airport storage (only if you fly out of MIA), or keeping your bags in a private driver’s car.
How much does luggage storage cost near the Miami cruise port?
About $5 to $15 per bag per day in Bayside and Downtown, and $6 to $12 in South Beach. At Miami International Airport it is $12 to $18 per bag. A family with 4 large suitcases pays roughly $40 to $64.
How long does it take from the Port of Miami to the airport?
About 9 miles: 20 to 30 minutes without traffic. From South Beach, leave about 2 hours before your flight.
If my flight leaves at 3 p.m., do I have time to see Miami?
